Why comments are harder to clean by hand.
Posts are usually easy to recognise because they live on your own profile. Comments are messier. They can be scattered across groups, friends' posts, public pages and threads you have not seen in years. Facebook puts them in Activity Log, but older comments only appear after more of the page has loaded.
Tidy helps by opening the comments section, scrolling back to bring older comments into view, then counting what it can see. You still decide when to start. If the count looks wrong or Facebook slows down, stop and try a smaller pass.
Worth knowing: deleting your comment removes your
reply. It does not delete the original post, other people's replies or
screenshots anyone may already have.
Common mistakes to avoid.
Starting too broad
Do comments separately from posts and likes. It keeps the count clearer and makes it easier to see what Tidy is about to remove.
Rushing a long history
If you have years of comments, expect Facebook to load them slowly. Smaller passes are easier on both you and the page.
Expecting undo
Treat deletion as permanent. If comments are part of memories you might want later, download your Facebook data before starting.
What to expect after deleting comments.
Once a comment is deleted, it disappears from the thread where it was posted. If someone had already replied to it, the conversation may look different, but Tidy is only removing your comment — not other people's words. Facebook does not usually make a public announcement that a comment was removed.
For older comments, the slow part is often loading them in the first place. If the page feels stuck, stop the pass, refresh Facebook, and come back later. A smaller, cleaner pass is better than forcing the Activity Log to load too much at once.
