Save a copy before you clear out.

Deleting is permanent, so it's worth keeping a copy of your memories first. Facebook lets you download your information in a few clicks — here's how, before you tidy up with a clear conscience.

Download your information first.

1

Open your settings

Go to Settings & privacy, then Settings, then "Your Facebook information".

2

Choose what to save

Pick "Download your information" and select posts, comments, photos — whatever you'd like to keep.

3

Wait for the file

Facebook prepares it in the background and lets you know when it's ready to download.

Now you can clear out with confidence.

With your memories safely saved, you can clear old posts, comments and likes knowing nothing is truly lost. Tidy handles the clearing from your own browser — no password, nothing uploaded.

Tip: keep the downloaded file somewhere safe, like a backup drive or cloud folder, before you start a big clear-out.
